Business leaders don’t need another black-box “AI.” They need numbers they can defend and explanations their teams can understand. IBM’s latest update to Planning Analytics (PA)—now available in our QuickStart Solution for SAP Business One—delivers exactly that: AI-driven insights with auditability and room to customize when you need more.
This release is built to empower business users. It blends rock-solid, repeatable calculations with natural-language context, and it opens the door to purpose-built agents that automate real planning work. Here’s what matters—and how it changes the day-to-day for QuickStart customers.

Why this update matters?
The purpose of the update is clear: put evolving AI capabilities into the hands of business users so they can move faster with confidence. QuickStart embeds these capabilities inside the dashboards and workflows your teams already use, so value shows up immediately—no re-modeling or tool sprawl.
Hybrid AI: Reliable Numbers, Human Explanations
IBM’s neuro-symbolic approach pairs two strengths:
Deterministic statistical models generate forecasts and outlier scores that are reliable and repeatable (same input → same output).
Probabilistic LLMs (Granite) translate complex data into plain language so non-technical users can act.
For finance and operations, that combination is the breakthrough: you gain auditability without losing accessibility.

What’s new inside QuickStart?
(and what it does for you)
AI Forecasting
QuickStart now uses a set of nine statistical models to produce a repeatable baseline. Alongside the number, the system provides LLM-generated explanations and accuracy metrics like MAPE—so leaders understand trend, seasonality, and how much to trust the projection. Forecast debates shift from “is the math right?” to “are our assumptions right?”
Outlier Analysis
Spot anomalies where they actually live—at the leaf level—and get immediate context in natural language. Because the analysis expects clean, single-level crosstabs (no whitespace), you eliminate false alarms from mixed hierarchies and focus on the exceptions that matter.
Impact Analysis
Understand which factors move your results. Using PCA, QuickStart surfaces correlations and then uses the LLM to clarify relationships in everyday language. It’s a decision accelerant—while remembering the golden rule: correlation ≠ causation.
Explain Cell
The feature business users love most. Explain Cell converts TM1 rule logic, consolidations, and intersections into plain English. Controllers can follow the lineage of a number without waiting on a developer; modelers get fewer “how is this calculated?” tickets.
Recommend View
Ask for what you need in natural language and get an actionable view—a chart or crosstab that’s ready to drill. It’s not a novelty chatbot; it’s a faster way to arrive at the slice of data that answers the question.
Chart Insight
Sometimes the best starting point is a sentence. Chart Insight uses LLMs to summarize trends and key points directly from a visual, helping teams align quickly in reviews and stand-ups.
Exploration Analysis
When it’s time to brief executives, Exploration Analysis compiles an executive-ready PDF—summaries and insights—so you spend less time packaging findings and more time acting on them.

Custom AI Agents: From Generic Help To Targeted Automation
IBM is moving beyond a one-size-fits-all assistant toward specialized AI agents—and QuickStart customers can take advantage.
WatsonX Orchestrate Integration: Build custom agents that can read and write to Planning Analytics, extending functionality beyond IBM’s built-ins to match your processes.
Planned IBM Agents: Update Model, Scenario Planning, and Forecasting—focused helpers for high-value tasks.
First Agent (Allocation): A live proof that full read/write integration between PA and WatsonX is here.

Data Privacy: Confidence Built In
IBM emphasized a simple, critical promise: customer data sent to WatsonX is never retained or used for training. It’s used to generate the requested explanation and destroyed immediately afterward. That keeps QuickStart deployments aligned with compliance and confidentiality standards.
